Luz Munoz
is a licensed acupuncturist and Doctor of Oriental medicine. She began her career in Colombia as a biologist, where she worked in environmental education programs to control the proliferation of mosquitoes that transmit malaria and at the same time identifying those possible species of mosquitoes that are potentially vectors of this fatal infection.
She also worked in the lush vegetation zones of the Valle del Cauca (Colombia), where she served as a beekeeper for fifteen years. Here, she recognized the great value that bees provide both to the agriculture and food industry through products such as delicious honey, Pollen, Royal Jelly and Propolis.
Her interest in people's health and well-being, brought her to New York where she studied and learned more about the science of Eastern medicine, which she became interested in for its high effectiveness and low side-effect reaction. In this branch of medicine, she worked as a volunteer at the Governeur Health Care Senior Center to provide her services to different sectors of the population, especially to low-income New Yorkers. She found that acupuncture is well accepted in this population due to its low cost and the immediate positive bodily response in patients. From her experience, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine has tremendously benefited the elderly and those with limited financial resources, as an alternative source of medicine.
